Way back last year, Steve Jobs mentioned a 3G iPhone by this year. Stock clearanced of the current iPhone have started to pop up and now, Yahoo reports that we may see iPhone 3G by Q3 this year or probably Q2. However, nothing can be confirmed.

Update: Apple is now looking for Handwriting Recognition Engineer team to improve the current standard of Mac OS X handwriting recognition. This may be just normal as Apple have been implementing Inkwell handwriting recognition system into OS X, but " The recognition technology you create may extend beyond Mac OS X to other applications and the iPhone. "Maybe, we would something grand near the corner for the iPhone.!!!

Apple patent apps that brings the A-Game back!

Apple had just patent some new 6 apps that would probably bring a so called "Life Companion" system to their iPhone and iPod Touch. With the advanced technology like also the built in accelerometer and SDK coming on, there are no stopping what Apple might be pushing into their touchie devices. Meanwhile, the patents also show somekind of diet coach in the system to assist you in scanning bar codes of products using iPhone's camera .  That will surely bring more possibilities. Well, of course we always end with a sad feeling that is not knowing when this will become a real system available , probably WWDC???

Motorola splits to two!!

The board of directors has agreed to split Motorola into two independent, publicly-traded companies. The new entities will be called Mobile Devices and Broadband & Mobility Solutions. The Mobile Devices business will focus on the design, manufacturing, and sales of mobile handsets and accessories globally. The Broadband & Mobility Solutions business covers Moto's enterprise, government, public safety, and home and networks business. Greg Brown, Motorola's president and CEO, says the reason for the split is easy, "Creating two industry-leading companies will provide improved flexibility, more tailored capital structures, and increased management focus - as well as more targeted investment opportunities for our shareholders." Right, weren't those the reasons for the Palm split? The matter is of course subject to regulatory approvals, but Motorola hopes that the transaction is complete "in 2009.

Apple news updates

Apple mighty backup software( Time Machine) will now work with AirDisk on AirPort Extreme. Apple has released new firmware for AirPort Extreme(3.7.1). There are no release notes though, but TUAW is rather saying that it is working fine. So, AirPort Extreme owners could no start getting USB drives can doing backups.
According to Financial Times, Apple is working out a new model that will give customers free or unlimited access aka "ALL YOU CAN EAT" to their iTunes store service by paying a premium price for their iPods and iPhones. More like the Nokia Comes With Music service, it would be apply much like it accept for their iPhone which may be attached to the billing contract. What we don't know is whether the payment for premium price will give access to how long of free service and at what limitations. Oh yeah, let's just hope that that tinnie premium price will be as low as could be unlike Nokia's plan.

A Flip iPhone coming soon?

What you are seeing above may just become something real in the near future. Apple apparently just patent that application and might be revealing what it seems to be a flip iPhone. The application describes it as a dual sided trackpad, which means two sides of the screen is translucent and touchable. Imagine you have the ability to flip the phone's display anyway you want, be it the bottom or top to fold up. Look at that finger gesture there. It seems like you can draw a two on that trackpad. And if you prefer, you can light up that LED T9 keypad. Well, it could go on with the imaginations. Meanwhile, don't put your hopes too high cause nobody knows when this comes out but you can also check out a rough idea of how it may look like. Hit the link below.

Apple patents DVR functionality

This wold be extremely hot for everybody. Apple just patent something that may enable DVR functionality for the Apple TV in the near future. It is almost like a TiVo like solution to make use of a handheld component to record and manage recordings , and probably download them into your iPod. Well, I am saying this won't be just a normal thing like other DVR. It seems to be incorporating some kind of advance gesture based control system. However, this is just one of Apple's brilliant ideas. Maybe El Jobso has already gone far ahead by inventing a new more futuristic system now.

Ireland and Austria gets iPhone

It was just the matter of time for us to see iPhones launching in more countries across Europe. Apple has got Irish and Austrians iPhones.€399 nabs the 8GB model while spending an extra €100 gets you the 16GB model. T-Mobile gets their contract in Austria while O2 gets Ireland. However, Irish subscribers are not entitled to Visual Voicemail or free WiFi even though O2 UK gets both. Maybe O2 missed that out.

Windows 7 confirmed in 2010

Couple of months ago, we have heard that Microsoft is rumoured to be releasing their Windows Vista successor, Windows 7 in 2011. That is a three years plan from now. Microsoft officially confirmed that Windows 7 will be released in 2010 , which is 1 year earlier than the rumoured one. Microsoft also confirmed that the three years actually started from Vista's general release(Jan 30 2007), which makes Jan 30 2010 three years. Microsoft plans to announce a exact release date once Windows 7 has reached it's target. What it means is we don't know when but it better be sometime in 2010. Microsoft fanboys, what can I say???

More on iPhone SDK

Just four days after Apple's mighty iPhone SDK was announced, there are reports saying as much as 100K SDK software downloaded. This is majorly shocking except for the fact it is Apple. Remember the Safari beta success after launch? Beside the exceeding downloads amount, Apple is telling that Namco and PopCap are working on titles like Pac-man, Galaga, Bejeweled, Zuma and Peggle to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Six Apart's CEO has also starting to develop native iPhone apps for TypePad. We will just have to wait for it to release.
Furthermore, iPhone Dev team has been reported that they have decrypted the disk image and jailbroken the 1.2 firmware which will be released as 2.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch users in June. The firmware is now being released only to developers that are approved only by Apple. For you people out there, the 2.0 firmware will be available as a free update for iPhone while for a certain fee for iPod Touch users in June.

Asus CEO Jerry Shen, says in a recent interview about their new added family member and their fourthcoming member.Apparently, the new set of miniature PCs will carry SSDs as opposed to the flash memory we saw in previous iterations, with sizes ranging from 8GB in the XP-equipped model, up to 12GB or 20GB in the Linux versions . Shen also revealed that there are tentative plans to release WiMAX and HSDPA-enabled models sometime in Q3 of 2008, and he confirmed that come May the company will trade up to Intel's Diamondville (er, Atom) chips. In addition, more colors are on the way, and the base price in the US will be $499 at launch -- though that figure is expected to drop in the following months.

The Full Report on Apple's SDK event

On March 6th, Apple has held an Apple event at the town hall in Cupertino. It was what people expected to see. The SDK for iPhone and iPod Touch. Besides SDK, Apple revealed a cool Enterprise feature for the business users which is the ActiveSync Microsoft Exchange server.
Let's talk about the Enterprise feature first since it came along first in the event. Apple have licensed ActiveSync with Microsoft. This feature enables you and your company to create a Exchange server and to share and change or whatever in your laptop but now, even on your iPhone. There are all the features you business users ever wanted like push mail, contacts, calendar and including Remote Wipe, which wipes out everything on the iPhone remotely. I don't knowmuch bout this but you can check for more information at  http://www.apple.com/iphone/enterprise/
For the SDK, first and foremost, I got to say it is fabulous and will be interesting once developers get started on the apps. Yes, Apple finally released their iPhone and iPod Touch SDK for developers.  Developers will have access to the same "Cocoa Touch" framework and all other APIs used by Apple for iPhone software development. Features include hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, location-enabled apps and full access to all the media capabilities of the iPhone. The 3-axis accelerometer is also up for grabs. Just like normal Mac applications, developers can use Xcode (Mac only) for their project -- a coding environment bundled with every copy of OS X. In addition to traditional Xcode tools there's a new feature called iPhone Simulator which acts as a full-on iPhone emulator for testing out apps without destroying your device. Developers will have to download the SDK software from Apple's website and also to get trying it on their iPhones, you will have to be hand picked by Apple to try out their beta version of iPhone 2.0 firmware.
For users, we will have to wait till June to get the free new 2.0 firmware for our iPhones. Yes, it is totally free update for the iPhone but you may be seeing a charge for the iPod Touch users again. Pricing is not mention in the Q&A session. Alongside the 2.0 firmware update, users will be getting a new app on their table, which is App Store. It will be run straight on iPhone and iPod Touch. Users will be able to download free or non-free apps wirelessly from the App Store. The App Store is somewhat like the wi-fi iTunes store. Steve added that no Malicious, porn or any other illegal content will be allowed. Developers get 70% of the revenue, while 30% goes to Apple for upkeep. The apps can be released for free or either for a certain charge. Users can also get apps from iTunes store. More at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/
All right, that's all on the full report of the SDK event. And before I forget, simlock ap is a no-no as Steve pointed out as a disallowed app in App Store. The 2.0 firmware update comes in June as a free update for the iPhone while for a uncertain charge for the iPod Touch.

Eee PC killer by Q2/Q3

Guys at Engadget got in touch with Managing Director and Country Manager for Acer Germany, Steffan Engel which confirmed that an Asus Eee PC killer is on track for Q2 or Q3 release. Acer will still continue to produce their 7 inch PackardBell Esy Note XS a.k.a Everex Cloudbook.

An Eee PC with Windows 7 in the works?

Asus has pushed the envelope by releasing 9 inch Eee PCs with Windows XP or Linux versions. But, what about Windows Vista or probably Windows 7? Judging by Eee's specs, getting Vista on it will just make it dead. What interesting is Asus and Microsoft seems to be in discussion of a Windows 7 version of Eee in the near future. As you will recall, Windows 7, the unreleased successor of Windows Vista has a more leaner kernel and getting it on Eee would be easy. However, we should already heard that Microsoft tells that Windows 7 would be releasing somewhere in 2011 , and even not the rumoured mid 2009 release. Just maybe, the next version of Windows will be here even sooner than expected.

Wednesday, March 5, 2008

A group of researchers led by Osaka University's Kazuhiro Taniguchi is looking to take things one step further, with them now touting their wink-based control system. Apparently consisting of a "a single-chip computer and a couple of infrared sensors," the system, dubbed the Kome Kami Switch (or Temple Switch), lets you perform basic tasks like skipping tracks on an iPod with the blink of an eye, and is supposedly fine-tuned enough to be able to distinguish natural blinking from a deliberate wink. Needless to say, the technology's still a long ways from finding itself attached to your noggin but, as the AFP reports, the researchers "want" to launch a venture within two to three years to commercialize it.

Intel brings Atom

Intel has officially announced their Diamondville and Silverthorn chips as "Atom", while Menlow chips as "Centrino Atom". The 45nm processors will be targeted at MID and UMPCs or any other ultraportable computers.

Sony XPERIA X1 still on track for this year release

A day ago, they were rumours of delayed release of the much anticipated Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 . Now, Sony Ericsson Vice President and Global Communication Aldo Liguori, told the unofficial Sony Ericsson blog" I can confirmed that the X1 will be released in second half of 2008 as announced on 10th of February. That pretty much cleared the rumours.

Asus brings 9 inch Eee PC

Asus just released their new generation ultraportable Asus Eee PC. Now, from the regular 7 inch low res display Eee PC, Asus brings 9 inch higher resolution screen(1024x600), 3 hours battery life(up from 2.5 hours) Eee PC. So, it will be hitting around middle 2008, and bringing a €399 for 12GB version. No word on other pricing but we will see soon.

More multi-touch gestures with MultiClutch

Alright, we all got excited(super) when Apple finally got multi-touch trackpads on MacBook AIr and MacBook Pro which the iPhone adopts. However, the multi-touch gestures is simply restricted to certain applications only. So, if you guys who wan't to do far more, let me introduce Multi-Clutch. This simple preference pane enables more gestures controls like switch
between tabs with a flick and zoom in on e-mail....

Note:It is available for only MacBook Air and Multi-Touch MacBook Pros. Other models won't apply including iPhones and iPod Touch.

MultiClutch lets you bind gestures to a Cocoa app, including swipe, zoom and rotate. If you want to test this out, understand that it's beta. With that in mind, have fun!

Nike+ Apple getting back in style?

We all may have probably be amazed with the Nike+iPod system that Apple and Nike worked on a  year ago. Now, the partners will be bringing back a new Nike+iPod device that plays nice with gym equipments(cardio equipment). It kinda lets you plug in your Nano, track your workouts and upload it into the service.According to Nike's own announcement, Life Fitness, Precor, Star Trac and Technogym are already on board and working on iPod-ready equipment, while participating gyms (including 24 Hour Fitness and Virgin Active Health Clubs) are supposedly set to starting rolling 'em out sometime this summer.

iPod Nano Purple to be added to the family

Guys at Engadget just got a rumour of a new iPod Nano coming on our way. It will be in Purple. The ad above is distributed last weekend at the Circuit City in Minneapolis. This image above could just be another silly Photoshop work of someone. However, all can be told at the Apple  Event in a few days, 6th of March to be exact.

Sony Ericsson much hyped XPERIA X1 will be delayed

the table above, found at Sony's own site shows something you all will be sad of. Back in MWC 08, Sony unveiled their XPERIA X1 and was scheduled to release around Q2 2008. While now, Sony's own site is claiming a delayed launch till next year February 2. That is depressing. Anyways, nothing has been confirmed and who knows, maybe we will see it later this year.

ModBook upgraded, now at 2.4GHz

Axiotron just bumped their current oh- so touchie ModBook. Now, users can snag up a ModBook with ptions of a 2.1 GHz or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors and 120GB or 160GB Hard Drives. The price on the base model stays the same ($2,290), but the new 2.4GHz config will run you $2,480.

RIM's new QWERTY slider patent

Yes, guys at RIM just sucessfully filed for a patent to the US Patent Office. The above patent looks like the one that HTC filed in 2005. The company is calling it a "Hybrid Portrait-Landscape Handheld Device With Trackball Navigation and QWERTY Hide-Away Keyboard," We are already familiar with BlackBerry's trackball navigation, but what about landscape handheld device and the hide away keyboard. Only time will tell when this pretty device comes to reality.

iPhone SDK to be Restricted by Apple

Alright, it was time for the rumours to fly in as the Apple event will be happening next week. So, According to iLounge, Apple will be restricting access to the 3rd party apps next week. Apple will probably hand-picking selected apps and making it downloadable from iTunes Store. For developers, you will see no access to any 3rd party accessories that contact with the iPod's dock connector. This may be caused by Steve's S60 verification scheme. However, they claimed that an incomplete beta will be released next week and a full version in June to catch on WWDC.
