On March 6th, Apple has held an Apple event at the town hall in Cupertino. It was what people expected to see. The SDK for iPhone and iPod Touch. Besides SDK, Apple revealed a cool Enterprise feature for the business users which is the ActiveSync Microsoft Exchange server.
Let's talk about the Enterprise feature first since it came along first in the event. Apple have licensed ActiveSync with Microsoft. This feature enables you and your company to create a Exchange server and to share and change or whatever in your laptop but now, even on your iPhone. There are all the features you business users ever wanted like push mail, contacts, calendar and including Remote Wipe, which wipes out everything on the iPhone remotely. I don't knowmuch bout this but you can check for more information at http://www.apple.com/iphone/enterprise/
For the SDK, first and foremost, I got to say it is fabulous and will be interesting once developers get started on the apps. Yes, Apple finally released their iPhone and iPod Touch SDK for developers. Developers will have access to the same "Cocoa Touch" framework and all other APIs used by Apple for iPhone software development. Features include hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, location-enabled apps and full access to all the media capabilities of the iPhone. The 3-axis accelerometer is also up for grabs. Just like normal Mac applications, developers can use Xcode (Mac only) for their project -- a coding environment bundled with every copy of OS X. In addition to traditional Xcode tools there's a new feature called iPhone Simulator which acts as a full-on iPhone emulator for testing out apps without destroying your device. Developers will have to download the SDK software from Apple's website and also to get trying it on their iPhones, you will have to be hand picked by Apple to try out their beta version of iPhone 2.0 firmware.
For users, we will have to wait till June to get the free new 2.0 firmware for our iPhones. Yes, it is totally free update for the iPhone but you may be seeing a charge for the iPod Touch users again. Pricing is not mention in the Q&A session. Alongside the 2.0 firmware update, users will be getting a new app on their table, which is App Store. It will be run straight on iPhone and iPod Touch. Users will be able to download free or non-free apps wirelessly from the App Store. The App Store is somewhat like the wi-fi iTunes store. Steve added that no Malicious, porn or any other illegal content will be allowed. Developers get 70% of the revenue, while 30% goes to Apple for upkeep. The apps can be released for free or either for a certain charge. Users can also get apps from iTunes store. More at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/
All right, that's all on the full report of the SDK event. And before I forget, simlock ap is a no-no as Steve pointed out as a disallowed app in App Store. The 2.0 firmware update comes in June as a free update for the iPhone while for a uncertain charge for the iPod Touch.
